A timeline of the events on 15 April 1989. At 2.15pm, a crowd started to build up outside the Leppings Lane entrance, where almost 24,000 Liverpool supporters had to enter through 23 turnstiles. At 2.45pm, outside the Leppings Lane entrance, a crush had developed. At 2.52pm, Gate C opened for a second time and remained open for several minutes, during which time an estimated 2,000+supporters entered. The majority followed the most visible route to the terraces, a tunnel to the centre pens, Pen 3 and Pen 4.
