Summary of outcomes
1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024
Decisions following completed investigations:
- 305 IOPC independent investigations were completed (This figure differs from the figure of 306 completed investigations shown in other reports, such as our Annual report and statement of accounts 2023/24. This is due to a revision made in August 2025.)
- Of these 170 were conduct matters (56% of all investigations) involving 377 police officers/staff.
- Of these there were 70 criminal investigations, 110 police officers / staff accounts under criminal caution, and 69 police officers/staff referred to CPS.
- Of the 377police officers/staff, 186 had a case to answer for misconduct or gross misconduct (49% of those investigated).
Misconduct and criminal outcomes:
- 87 misconduct proceedings took place, of which 62 misconduct or gross misconduct cases were proven (72%).
- 24 officers/staff faced criminal proceedings, of these 15 either pleaded guilty or were found guilty at trial (64%).
