Special determination policy

This document sets out the procedure the IOPC will follow, and the factors that must be considered, when deciding whether it is reasonable and proportionate to bring disciplinary proceedings against an officer who retired or resigned more than 12 months before an allegation amounting to gross misconduct came to light.

The policy was updated in September 2025 to reflect legislative changes and a change in the decision maker.
