Policy on amended use of force in transitional cases

On 30 June 2026 new regulations came into force amending the use of force standard of police professional behaviour from the criminal law test to the civil law test. This policy provides guidance to IOPC decision makers in making determinations for transitional cases, those where officers are currently awaiting disciplinary proceedings for their use of force applying the criminal law test.
