Learning the Lessons

Learning the Lessons issue 43 focuses on mental health. Police forces across England and Wales are currently reflecting on their approach to incidents which relate to mental health to make sure that when someone experiences mental ill health, they are met with a person with the right skills, training and experience to best meet their needs. This issue is dedicated to exploring the relationship between mental health and policing. It is designed to encourage discussion and reflective thinking, and to make sure that when vulnerable people come into contact with the police, they receive a dignified and compassionate response.

Key themes include frontline policing, contact management, custody, vulnerability and risk assessments, the Mental Health Act, national initiatives and guidance, and the importance of effective partnership working.
