Taser discharged before fatal fall at Handsworth - West Midlands Police

Read information about our investigation into West Midlands Police actions and decisions, including the use of a Taser, during an incident where Ayub Abdi fell to his death from a window at Handsworth, Birmingham, on 6 September 2023. We found no case to answer for the officer who discharged his Taser prior to Mr Abdi’s fall. An inquest ended on 27 November 2025 when the jury concluded that  Mr Abdi died as a result of head injuries sustained in the fall during the attempt by police to detain and arrest him.
