Death of man following arrest near St Austell - Devon & Cornwall

Read information here about our investigation into the detention of a 34-year-old man by Devon & Cornwall Police prior to his death in hospital on Thursday 13 July. The man was arrested near St Austell at around 10.30 am that day after a report of a car being driven erratically in the area. He was transported in a police van to Newquay custody unit before being taken by ambulance to hospial where he was sadly pronouced dead that day. Our investigation began straight away after being notified by the force.
