Met detective sacked over off-duty conduct following investigation
A Met Police detective, who brought and used Class A drugs and used the services of sex workers while overseas, has been sacked for gross misconduct following an investigation that was directed by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). Detective Constable Pervaz Malik, based in the Central West Command Unit, faced an accelerated misconduct hearing over allegations his conduct, while overseas on personal trips, breached the police standards of professional behaviour. The investigation, which was carried out by the Met’s Anti-Corruption Command under the IOPC’s direction and control, found that DC Malik organised sex workers for himself and others while overseas between 2016 and 2023 and also purchased, used, and facilitated the supply of Class A drugs. Following a one-day disciplinary hearing, a panel today found that his conduct breached the police standards of professional behaviour relating to discreditable conduct, honesty and integrity, and fitness for duty. He will be dismissed without notice and placed on police’s barred list. IOPC Director Amanda Rowe said: “Police officers must behave in a manner that does not discredit the police service or undermine public confidence in it. “DC Malik’s conduct while off-duty fell well short of the standards expected of officers and a panel has decided he is not fit to remain in the police service.” As part of the investigation, DC Malik was arrested at Stanstead airport in August 2023 on suspicion of conspiracy to supply controlled drugs. A referral was made to the Crown Prosecution Service in December 2024, which decided to take no further action. |
