Dates of hearing: 2 to 27 June 2025

Summary
On 3 December 2020 school staff requested attendance of police officers to the location to undertake a search of a 15 year female pupil.

A strip search was conducted on the child on school premises, without authority for such having been sought or granted by a supervisor and without the presence of an Appropriate Adult.

It was alleged that subsequent reports / documentation were either not immediately completed as professionally expected, or were completed without the expected detail.

Decision
TDC Linge, as one of the 2 female search officers, was found to have committed gross misconduct, having breached the standards of:

  • Duties and Responsibilities
  • Orders and Instructions
  • Authority, Respect and Courtesy
  • Discreditable Conduct

PC Szmydynski, as one of the first officers on scene, was found to have committed gross misconduct, having breached the standards of:

  • Duties and Responsibilities
  • Order and Instructions
  • Authority, Respect and Courtesy
  • Discreditable Conduct

PC Wray, as one of the 2 female search officers, was found to have committed misconduct, having breaches the standards of:

  • Duties and Responsibilities
  • Orders and Instructions
  • Authority, Respect and Courtesy

TDC Linge was dismissed without notice.
PC Szmydynski was dismissed without notice.
PC Wray received a 2 year Final Written Warning.
