Investigation

On 8 February 2018 West Mercia Police received a call regarding the welfare of a man who was not responding to telephone calls. Police officers were deployed later that night to conduct a welfare check on the man. Officers spoke to the man and checked his home. The man was found not to be vulnerable at that time.

On 9 and 10 February 2018 West Mercia Police received further calls regarding the man’s welfare. Officers went to the man’s home in the early hours of 10 February but received no response. Another officer was sent to the man’s home later that same morning and found the man dead in his home.

As part of the investigation we gathered a number of statements from officers who had attended the man’s home. We also retrieved records of all calls relating to the man, as well as the incident logs from the incident. We gathered and analysed a number of policies and procedures.

Based on the evidence available, we found no indication any police officer may have behaved in a manner that would justify the bringing of disciplinary proceedings or committed a criminal offence.
