A Met Police staff member will appear in court charged with corruption-related offences as part of a directed investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Samantha Smith, 40, a call handler, is accused of three counts under sections 1 and 3 of the Computer Misuse Act 1990. She is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday 24 November.

The charges relate to unauthorised checks she made using police systems between 15 January 2020 and 8 August 2023.

The investigation was conducted by the Met’s Anti-Corruption & Abuse Command under the direction of the IOPC’s anti-corruption unit and is part of a wider investigation into other criminality.

A file of evidence was sent to the Crown Prosecution Service which decided to authorise the charges.
