A Derbyshire Constabulary officer has been charged with assaulting a child at a care home, following an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

It’s alleged PC James Wilkinson assaulted the 17-year-old boy after he’d been called to the residential care home in Chesterfield in the early hours of 21 March this year.

PC Wilkinson, aged 49, has been charged with one count of actual bodily harm.

The IOPC launched an independent investigation on 28 March after Derbyshire Constabulary referred two complaints relating to the police attendance.

We sent a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) on 21 August which subsequently authorised the charge.

He is due to attend Nottingham Magistrates Court on 6 November for a first appearance.
